Sequins

I blame it on those sequined ruby slippers from The Wizard of Oz for turning me into a little girl attracted to all things glittery...and the sparkly love affair continues as an adult!

Of course, being older and wiser, I've been trying to only add "neutral" sequined items in my wardrobe. Sequins are most wearable in black, pewter, muted gold, silver grey, blush, dusty lilac, and ivory in my opinion. The most memorable sparkly items from my favorite fashion bloggers include: I am Khatu's shorts, Extra Petite's skirt, Dress Up Files' dress, Confessions of a Call Center Gal's top, and maybe Classy Girls Wear Pearls glittery heels.

So my recent sequin purchase was this Forever21 Sequined Sheer Back Top. I'm still debating if it's a keeper or not due to loose fit. Perhaps I can pull it off...
$19.80
Size Small - Gunmetal
The sequin top would be great for holiday parties, girls-night-out, or in my case...dancing Xbox 360 Kinect Michael Jackson style in my brother's gaming room (by myself, haha).

Also, here's some old magazine/catalog clippings I saved in my personal scrapbook, reminding me how timeless sequins are...

Forever 21 craze

Ok, I really think I'm going crazy at Forever 21...never before have I been so obsessed with their online goods...this time I'm on to the flats....

Pointed Faux Suede Flats ($24.80 - Fuchsia) and Pointed Retro Flats ($19.80 - Aqua)

Reminds me of Ann Taylor Elizabeth cap-toe flats last year.
I am envisioning all sorts of fashionable outfits with these statement flats...

(Alright, alright, no more looking at Forever 21 since I'm suppose to be limiting my spending right now, but may come back to these styles later on).

First mentioned here.
This necklace IS gorgeous in person! Glad I ordered it.
Doesn't it also remind you of the Titanic movie, or the British royals...Princess Diana/Kate Middleton?

4. Bejeweled Flower Collar Necklace
$24.80

See on Closet de Jules

5. Circle Bib Necklace
$12.80
Mint/Silver
See on Ella Pretty

6. Sparkling Teardrop Necklace
$15.80
Blue/Clear
It looks beautiful online! Hopefully it looks just as nice in person.
(reminds me of Harry Winston Hall Sapphire Necklace)

Oh, here's some blurry shots of the real deal when I went to the Smithsonian National Museum of Natural History last year. Washington D.C. is now on the top of my list for vacation/extended getaway/future honeymoon destination...haha...because I love it that much and the neverending things to see!
It's really hard to take pictures of these gems in the dim lighting behind a blurry glass and little kids breathing and drooling at my sides, haha. The Hall Necklace is more vibrant and prettier than the Hope Diamond in my opinion.

Golden Compass winter fashion

I watched The Golden Compass for the first time today on my day off from work, chilling at home in my warm blankets. I like the pretty outfits Nicole Kidman wore, especially the coats!

As mentioned on Quest for Fashion Sense comments, my first splurge item ever was this Marvin Richards ivory coat...seven years ago. It was on sale for around $80, which was a big deal for me back then, but I've only worn it once (to my first ballet ever! It was amazing!).

Speaking of, one of the nice things about the upcoming Valentine's weekend is that the Ballet always has some great performances going on. If you like orchestral music, intricate costumes, dramatic love stories, and appreciate dance, February is the perfect time to hit the performing art center!

What I love to wear to such events are:
1. Glamorous coat - it's chilly at night, and a glamorous coat with some fur on it always makes me feel like a super star upon arriving at the theater.
2. Knit top or tee - since my coat is glamorous, I like to tone down my outfit with a simple sweater or tee. Since the performance is usually 2+ hours, I want to be comfortable too!
3. Jeans - because it's the weekend and they make the bum look good.
4. Heels - to make the jeans look even better.
5. Bling - I'm a lover of earrings, so any chance I can take out the fancy chandelier or sparkly rhinestone earrings, I'm all for it :)

What do you wear to a ballet? Do share!
