I've always been a fan of the A-line skirt (or circle skirt? I'm not sure what is the difference), but I have been hesitant if I can pull off this style, since it might either make me look too childish, or frumpy since I dislike wearing form-fitting tops. My preferable way to wear these skirts are with cozy, over-the-hips cable sweaters as in these old magazine/catalog clippings I saved in my scrapbook:
Pleated A-line skirts are definitely IN style! The best part is that I don't have to worry about lumpy butt or panty-lines showing. I scored this camel pleated skirt at Forever21 Essentials (size XS) clearance rack for $9.99 recently.
Unfortunately, I don't own any cable sweaters anymore (due to mild weather where I live), and the best I could do is this New York & Co. cardigan....but then I noticed that perhaps the 'over-the-hip' sweater length only works for tall models and not for petites with short legs....
Untucked vs. Tucked
Which way do you think looks better?
Either way, I'm happy with this purchase, and hope to learn more ways to style it! On my blog radar, I'm very inspired by: Sew Petite Gal's DIY skirt, To Brighten My Day's circle skirt, Stylish Petite vintage skirt, Classy Girls Wear Pearls J.Crew skirt, Sydney's Fashion Diary burgundy skirt and DIY skirt here, and Her Waise Choice who frequently sports these type of skirts.
Ooh, Forever21 has some more fun ones online:
A-Line Polka Dot Skirt black/white $14.80
Striped Waist Skirt winter white $22.80
Pleated Faux Leather Circle Skirt black $22.80
Faux Leather A-Line Skirt black $22.80
Holiday Brocade Skirt black/gold $24.80 - as seen on Poor Little It Girl - she's only 4'11"! Love if when I see stylish petites!

Hi Olyvia! Great find on the skirt!! :)
I think the Tucked in version looks more polished and it shows off the skirt more.
You can also wear your skirt with a blouse :)
xoxo, Phoebe
Great color choice...will match with so much. I think either looks cute, but when you have it tucked it gives a nice back view! Loving your bag.
I am so jealous! I was stalking this skirt when it was still full price but waited too long to make a purchase (then my size sold out). It looks fantastic on you!!
What a fantastic find! That skirt looks so much more expensive than $10! Tucked in is better :)
Thanks for the feedback ladies! Looks like tucked-in is the winning look :)
Elle! I'll trade with your sequin skirt, haha ;) I landed upon this skirt by chance... If I see another one in xs, I'll let you know!
Jen K, I actually did the crumple test on this skirt from your tips and the skirt held well! This does seem like a better quality for forever21. I'll see how this handles the wash... I'm just afraid it might pill due to polyester/rayon blend... Cross fingers it doesn't!
haha the bronze sequin skirt will probably be too big for your waist...if I find something that fits smaller I'll buy it and then we can trade ;)
and thank you for the offer, if you can keep an eye out for the skirt I'd appreciate it!
Thank you for mentioning, Olyvia! I love this skirt on you. I agree with everyone, I prefer tucked-in version as well. The length is perfect on you and can't beat the price =)
What a dress skirt - the pleating and shape of it looks a lot more expensive than F21, and you scored it for a steal!
Elle, I went back to my local F21 today and all the pleated skirts were gone, except one in size large :( I tried!
Sydney! It was your burgundy skirt I was thinking of when I saw this skirt. I was like if Sydney looks good in the circle skirt, I'll give it a try! :)
Lisa, thanks! I'm thrilled you visited my blog and think the skirt looks more expensive than it is! I'm learning to have better taste in inexpensive clothes, haha.
I like the tucked in version the best :)
