The It Sweater of the Moment

One of the weird pastimes I have is evaluating trendy sweaters of the year. Christmas week brought out some great statement sweaters for holiday 2021, beckoning into 2022 winter. 

Olivia Palermo, who is the GOAT at trendsetting in classy styles, just had to make a Christmas greeting splash to all with this particular sweater.....I don't know what you call those little ball-y things...pom-poms, yarn-balls....which seems like they have been on-trend for awhile, but the shoulder flap/fold detail made it different. Almost 1980'ish feel, almost space-theme....almost like a faux-vest on a sweater. I thought it was a bit too much at first, but it's starting to wear on me. 

Then a few days later, I spotted a similar sweater on Tiffany Hsu on a dinner date with Tina Leung....these are famous streetstyle fashionistas so whatever they are choosing to wear when going out, they are for sure trying to bring out what's new and cool to the world! 

So cute, right?

Okay, so if I really wanted to update my sweater style, I'm thinking of trying these out....here's some similar ones on the market: 

    Forever 21 has the best dups....

(sale $34.99, which is still a bit pricey for F21) 

but comes in white and lime green! 

 

Express has some without the pom-pom balls, but the faux-vest detail is strong!

Nasty Gal has a more demure take on it, just the shoulder detail, no pom poms or extra knit textures.

Black Leather Pants Trend for Fall

I remember for a couple of seasons past, a few bloggers that I follow started testing out black leather leggings. I was on the fence with trying those shiny pants myself, and almost bought a leather-look yoga pants, but in the end, I gave up on the idea as it made me too self-conscious to wear it in public. 

I must acknowledge though that these black leather skinny pants have exploded this Fall 2020, where almost every blogger I read are sporting them quite religiously. The reviews rave about faux-leather fabric that are breathable, soft and stretchy, and the shine helps keep away fuzz and lint from winter sweaters better than other kinds of leggings, which makes it a very convincing piece when it comes to comfort.

Yet still not going to add these pants to my wardrobe since I don't have the legs for them, and I look unflatteringly stumpy when I try to wear a big sweater to cover the shy behind, haha. But I will live vicariously through Olivia Palermo in this outfit of perfection for now (even her lilac mask is bomb!)

Blunt Bob Haircut, Midi Skirt, Chunky Sweater, and Sneakers Goal

While scrolling through various online retailers recently, I keep seeing this recurring blunt bob hairstyle on the models that is making me wish for a fresh haircut!

As for clothing trends right now, I would totally wear these outfits: cropped sweater or jacket, midi skirt, and tennis shoes....comfortable and timeless. The question is, can a short person like myself look good in these compared to the tall models?

2015 streetwear inspiration

I thought I had unsubscribed to ASOS promotional emails, but they still keep coming somehow. Usually I delete them without thinking, but today, I happened to see this little photo of ASOS stylist Megan Ellaby...and oooh! I want to wear this outfit! 

1. Duster coat - check! I have something similar in my closet.

2. Cable knit sweater - don't have, but love the current Old Navy version as seen on Kelly in the City (on sale $19.97!)

3. Cropped jeans - eh, thinking about it...

4. Statement pumps - yes!

The velvet blazer

My conservative office or church party look

 with these perennial winter favorites:

1. Velvet blazer - my vintage velvet blazer has been with me since high school (1990's), and it never goes out of style every winter; makes any outfit instantly more dressed-up (similar blazers currently seen at J.Crew, Banana Republic and Target)

2. Cable-knit sweater - since my velvet blazer has always been a bit loose on me, it is perfect to wear a chunky sweater underneath. My favorite cable-knits are from Eddie Bauer (I try to stock up when they go on clearance during springtime at my local outlet mall). 

3. Leopard print heels - fashion bloggers definitely influenced me on these. They do miraculously blend well with any outfit, yet are more "special" than just plain black pumps. 

4. Gold purse - my vintage Judith Jack convertible gold purse has probably made the most appearances on this blog. Another item that spruces up any outfit to a more festive level!
